Android App – MarioSimulator Review

mario_avatarMario lover? Always wanted to jump and here the grabbing of coins? Then you will absolutely love this application! Mario Simulator makes it seem like you are in the Mario game, simply fire up the application, set the music to play (Mario theme song) and then run around the room! Everytime you jump with your mobile in your hand you will here the “Boing” that happens on the Mario Game!

I have to honestly say I used this application for about 3 minutes for the first three days I had it and then got bored of it, although I will not be removing it from my Phone as it is pretty cool and if you ever feel like having a Mario day then you could always fire this application up!

Rating – 6/10

Android App – Astrid Review

Astrid is an application for the Android platform that allows you to set reminders, tasks, events etc that are upcoming in your life. I tested this last night and set some of the things I needed to do today like the usual:

  1. Cut toe nails and finger nails (haha I would have remembered but needed to test some out)
  2. Get my bike out
  3. Clean the house

You get the options to set reminders for:

  • Absolute Deadline
  • Goal Deadline
  • Hide until this date options

You can aso set repeat options for re-ocuring appointments, set reminders for when the tasks are approaching, on the deadlines and after deadline passes. There is also the option to set a priority for the events and how long each event will take.

I will be using this app day to day to organize all the things I have to do per day so there is no excuse not to get things done.

I will give this Application 9/10

Give it a shot and never forget any other appointments again!

Android App – G1 Psycho Review

G1 Psycho is a nice little application / not a useful application but allows you tohave a little fun with your phone.

What the G1 Psycho does is turn your mobile into a Psycho machine! It displays a knife on screen which you can use as a prank! Swing your phone as though you would with a knife and here the Psycho music start while watching the blood appear on screen.  Stop swinging your phone and the music stops.

I installed this application last night and already been told off from my wife for being stupid!  Tut women, never see the funny side :)

I would rate this application 4/10 for usefulness but for fun 6/10

The application can be downloaded from the Android Market!

Give it a try and let me know if you found it fun, or if you too got told off by your partner for being stupid!

Be nice to know that I am not alone!

Android App – RideTrac Review

This is a great little application for your Android Mobile Phone. RideTrac is an application that uses GPS to track your location. The purpose of RideTrac is to record your bike rides or other activities, the application uses real time speed, distance and much more.

You can record your ride and export the data – All the journey is tracked on Google Maps!

I will be trying this application very soon as soon as I get my bike out again!

For now I am going to give this a rhodzy rating of 6/10 but I am hoping that it will be going higher pretty soon when I have had chance to test it some more!

What am I doing?

I find myself sat on the sofa with the dogs out in the garden, I know for a fact they are going to fetch lots of dirt in the house and it will force me to get the hoover out again, that will be the third time today. At the moment I am off work resting my legs due to my recent “shin splints” injury and spending most of the days on the internet looking for new articles and things to do.

What have I done today?

  • Got out of bed to a phone call from work at 7:28
  • Made a cup of coffee
  • Went to Tesco for dog food
  • Walked the dogs (Just following orders from Dr to get a bit of exercise)
  • Made the dogs breakfast
  • Fed myself (4 slices of toast)
  • Messed around on the G1 while having some pointless TV show on the box
  • Made another coffee
  • Scrolled through Virgin Media’s Music On Demand Service all afternoon while sitting with my feet up
  • Wondering what I am going to have for tea

That is all I have done all day – I hate having to rest and not been able to get up and walk about where / when / how far I want! No doubt tomorrow will be the same again, although I am going to try and do something different, I dont know maybe I wont go on the internet until lunch time?

Visit from Noel

I also had a visit from an old guy called Noel who comes around trying to spread the word of god and tries to get me to go to evening session and read the bible. I am not one to believe in God nor do I believe in an after life but I always listen to what he has to say, I did learn something from him today, most people probably know this already but did you know the Bible is written in over 2000 different languages? I didn’t and was quite shocked when he told me. You may be wondering whydo I listen to him if I dont believe? Well I aint one for turning people away and feel a little sorry for the guy – I reckon he gets the usual “Not Interested” “Not got time” “No thank you“  and all of the other excuses. I mean after all he is only trying to spread the word of what he believes in, its kind of the same as blogging in a way – Letting people know what you are doing, things you have done, things you believe etc. I have to say my face dropped when I noticed it was him, he hasnt been for 3/4 months and when I answered the door today he remembered the following things:

  • My Name
  • I was married
  • Asked if I had chance to read the 3 books he left me

I cant even remember what I did 3 months ago never mind all the peoples names and things about them that I dont see that much!

Music Videos

I found myself flicking through the music videos today and listening to things I would never have chosen or would probably have never listened to. Not sure why I listened to them today, im usually open about music and can listen to most things from dance, indie, rock and pop even abit of classical thrown in there but usually I have my limits on which artists/songs I can listen to.  Today I found myself listening to:

  • Emma Bunton
  • Eminem
  • Will Young
  • Elton John
  • Girls Allowed

Now you probably think there is nothing up with them artists listed above and you would be right, but when I have the choice over lets say The Killers, Keane, Athelete, Embrace, Take That and some of my other favourites, I have no idea why I didnt listen to my favourites and chose the ones above?? Beats me but I actually enjoyed listening to them. More weirdly I think I listened to all the Will Young ones that was avaliable. Not too sure what is going on in my head today – maybe its the fact I have been stuck in the house all week.

Internet Searches

I have done quite a few internet searches today, probably more than usual here are some of my searches I have done today:

  • cheap domain names
  • 123-reg voucher codes
  • godaddy voucher codes
  • open source php applications
  • become a better blogger
  • ideas for blogging
  • G1 applications
  • how to become root on G1

Those are just a few of the searches I have done today – seems like some pretty standard searches but I find myself wondering what if….

What if I wasnt looking to buy www.rhodzy.com today? That would have eliminated 3 of my searches:

  1. cheap domain names
  2. 123-reg voucher codes
  3. godaddy voucher codes

What if I wasnt a blogger? That would have eliminated two of my searches

  1. become a better blogger
  2. ideas for bloggin

and finally What if i didnt have a G1? This would have eliminated my last two searches

  1. G1 applications
  2. how to become root on G1

I ask my self what would I have searched for if I hadn’t searched for the above? To be honest I have no idea as if it wasn’t for IT, Technology and all other geeky things I cannot imagine what or where I would be to date?

All of these questions….and I dont know the answers!

web server winter clean

I found myself cleaning up my web server today deleting all the old themes I have been playing around with, plugins that I have tried and disabled, deleting all unused files, unused projects that I have started and got fed up with,  Gallery installations that I havent used for years, FTP accounts that are no longer used and basically just have a spring clean on the server, I think I removed over 2GB of un used files that were just taking up space.

worrying about work

Since I have been off work I have been worrying about my job queue building up, all the work I will be going back to – being the only IT Engineer covering Huddersfield, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield and other locations, not including all the 16 home users scattered across the Country ranging from Scotland, Ireland all the way to Rotherham passing through Liverpool, Newcastle and so on :) I find myself checking my work emails just to keep on top of things…SAD? Yup I would say it is, but makes my life a little easier when I get back to work.

random thoughts

I have had some petty random thoughts today I probably have them most days but never really pay any attention to them but today I am going to write them down so in a few years time I can look back at this post and just wonder how much my life has changed since this post and if I acted on any of the things I have written down.

  1. What’s wrong with Archie hope he’s ok with not eating right
  2. What am I going to have for tea
  3. Will I ever blog about anything that is useful for anyone to read
  4. Will I ever stop wanting every new thing that comes out?
  5. Will I ever be happy for the things I have? or will I always treat it like rubbish and not look after it
  6. What’s happening at work?
  7. What time will Erica be home?
  8. Will the Route 66 trip happen next year or will there always be something that goes wrong that needs higher priority
  9. Will I be a good dad?
  10. Are the dogs happy?
  11. Why do I keep listening to Will Young – Evergreen?

All the above questions are just some of the thoughts I have had over the past 11 hours, not too sure why I even thought some of them but like people say “everything happens for a reason”

I will look back at this post in two years time and maybe…just maybe I will have the answers I am looking for.

im impressed

If you have come down this far I am really impressed that I haven’t bored you shitless by now! Nice to know you are reading the whole article! Leave a comment if you get this far down!

summary

The reason for writing this post is for my own reference about my life, questions, what I have done today and hopefully when I look back in a few years time I will have the answers to some of my questions in this post, some of the things mentioned have been puzzling me today and just wish I knew the answers to them right now.

Android App – NesEMU Review

mario_avatarJust installed another app from the Android Market, today I have install NesEMU.

NesEMU is a NES emulator that allows you to play all your favourite NES games such as Super Mario, Pac Man, Bomber Man and Donkey Kong.  The Application actually comes with some roms already built in which im pretty sure is illegal. The roms that come preinstalled are:

  • Super Mario
  • Contra
  • Circus Charlie
  • Bomber Man
  • Pac Man
  • Muscle
  • B-Wings
  • Battle City
  • Ice Climber
  • Antarctic Adverture
  • Golf
  • Lode Runner
  • Binary.Land
  • Donkey Kong

Quite a selection of games to chose from to start with! My first impressions are really good, although the application does have quite a few faults:

  • Not able to change control keys
  • No sound
  • Not full screen
  • Pretty slow

Although the faults above are in the app at the moment – I do hope that the developer will be able to clear these up in future releases, it is very exciting to see this App on the G1 and hope the dev doesnt get fed up or the application doesnt get pulled from the Market.

I would rate this app 9/10 for the idea and 4/10 overall just because of the few faults.

Would be nice to see the scroll ball used in a future release, would be great to control Bomberman or Mario using the ball!
