PS3 Streaming error – Resolved.
OK right some of you may have read my previous post “Annoying PS3 Streaming error!“ I have recently overcome this issue and worked my way around it.
Previous issue
This is the error I was recieving when streaming video files from my iMac using eyeConnect, the film would play fine but would also show the error message shown to the left every couple of seconds. After a while I wouldn’t notice it and wouldn’t even bother me, a couple of other issues I came across with eyeConnect was the fact that it couldn’t stream MP3 files which was also annoying.
eyeConnect didn’t like it when another device was connected to the wireless router, such as when I was surfing the internet while streaming a movie, it would often lock up and freeze every couple of minutes, this was really annoying.
Resolution
I decided that I was going to remove eyeConnect from my iMac and find a better solution, after browsing the net for PS3 Media Servers I came across PS3MEDIASERVER origonal name I know but hey it’s a beauty! It is a Java application and is avaliable for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X. Very simple to install, very quick at detecting your PS3 when connected to the network and does exactly what it says on the tin. This in my opinion is 100times better than eyeConnect and best of all its FREE!
Installed on the Mac and set it to launch at Statup and run minimized so I will always be ready to stream my media from my PS3, simply choose the folders you want to share and your PS3 will automatically show them when powered on.
I am very happy with this find of streaming server, especially a Free one that runs on Mac OSX. The steaming is perfect, it took a little time to load a movie over WiFi for the first time but my PS3 is some distance away from my router. I even did the test as previous with having another WiFi device connected at the same time as streaming and this didn’t effect the movie in anyway, neither did it effect the movie when I closed my living room door & have WiFi deviced connected! 
its nice to know I finally have the perfect media streaming server installed, also does MP3′s! Could it get any better?

Blackberry Storm VS Blackberry Bold
Blackberry Storm VS Blackberry Bold
Right, the time has come where I need to decide which of my two blackberry’s I like the best, it really is a tough decision and both are great phones, here is a little breakdown of the good points and bad points I like about each phone.
This isn’t going to be easy to judge due to the fact my Storm is unlocked and currently working on the T-Mobile network, therefore I don’t have access to the Blackberry App World, Blackberry email or Blackberry messenger, but I do have access to these on the Bold so will judge on the physical side of the phone and not the software side.
Blackberry Storm – The good stuff
- Great design
- Excellent battery life
- Feels nice in the hand
- Durable and tough shell (dropped a few times but had no damage)
- Minimal buttons (which is great)
- Great for additional memory, I currently have my 8GB MicroSD card in which makes it a good media player on the move
- Ear Buds are great, cut most of the background noise out which makes it great for hands free calling as well as listening to music!
Blackberry Storm – The bad stuff
- I hate the touch screen, kind of feels you have to push the screen through in order to get it to respond, definitely not up to the standard of the iPhone. Not very easy to type on either, always find myself pressing the wrong buttons.
- When the phone has been turned on a while in generally slows down and is really slow at responding to requests such as turning to camera mode.
- Accelerometer isn’t the best when changing the orientation of the screen, I find myself most days trying to get the screen to switch back to the correct way it should be, this is a huge let down, especially when you are in a rush to get something done.
- Loud Mode, when the phone is in loud mode the sound is really distorted and isn’t really good at all, there should be no option for this if it cannot handle playing correctly at this level, Maybe if I were using some custom tones I could understand but just using the standard ones on the device, should be a little better!
- The voice activation button gets really annoying and have found on many occasions it being activated and I get the “Say a command” speaking to me! Ahh go away!
- The phone holder, Never really sure which way I am meant to put the Storm in, buttons to the top? Or buttons to the bottom? I have done it both ways and find both of these have issues.
- No wifi, in this day and age you would have expected wifi for a phone that is aimed at business people.
- No Trackball wheel
Blackberry Bold – The Good Stuff
- Very nice design
- Love the fact Blackberry have kept the trackball wheel
- Great keypad, very easy to type on, full QWERTY setup and a pleasure to use, great for typing long emails or txt messages.
- Great for additional memory, I currently have my 8GB MicroSD card in which makes it a good media player on the move
- Ear Buds are great, cut most of the background noise out which makes it great for hands free calling as well as listening to music!
- Fantastic battery life even when in 3G mode
- Has wifi – an essential in the IT world!
- Sound doesn’t distort when in loud mode
Blackberry Bold – The Bad Stuff
- Excessively larger than the Storm
- Screen could be a little larger (but that is more of a want than a need, nothing wrong with the Bolds screen just me being petty)
I seem to be really struggling with finding bad points with the Blackberry Bold, I would say the Bold makes a greater phone for the Business man/woman and people who just want a cool looking phone with a very to use keypad.
I think the Storm is a cool phone but overall I would have to choose the Bold, the Bold does exactly what it needs to do, without showing off all of the features that are not needed, it comes with all the necessary things you want in a phone like GPS, WIFI etc perfect for Business use.
The Storm is OK I guess but I find it’s just not that user friendly.
Winner = Blackberry Bold (with Hons) !
It’s like being a kid again!
Well as the title says It’s like being a kid again you can probably guess what is about to come!
Yep the rumours are true, rhodzy has bought a remote controlled car! I used to spend hours and hours playing with them when I was a kid and now it’s time to step back into childhood! Only this time on a much larger scale! I went to a carboot sale and bought myself a RC Land Rover Discovery 3 1/16 in size, its amazing, top speed is 35MPH but I ain’t had it up to that speed yet! Need a big open space to be able to achieve that speed! It has two big battery packs, one for the front wheels and one for the back wheels, had a little trouble with it at first but nothing a little tin foil couldnt resolve for a quick fix, problems with the battery compartment!
Check out the gallery below for images, my Dog’s arn’t too keen on it either, spent 20 minutes yesterday chasing them around the garden with constant barking going off! They obviously knew I was playing and I think they secretly enjoyed it too!
Looking into getting a Nitro 4×4 next, but just need to have the funds!

WOW – I seem to have an interest in something….

OK the reason for this post is to congratulate myself and give myself a pat on the back for reaching my 270th post on rhodzy.co.uk! I wouldn’t usually be bothered about it or pay any attention to this but I really have impressed myself and I am quite please also! The reason for this being I seem to have found something that I actually like doing and something that I am interested in, Yeah I am interested in lots of things mostly computer and anything gadgety because that is the industry I work in and all my background has been IT based, but who would have thought I would have kept the blogging going? Certainly not me, I thought it would be just a phase and something that I would have been bored with after a few months.
Since I have been updating the site more and more I have noticed a massive increase in page views, unique visitors and the usual bumph such as bots and referrals. I do go through phases now and again where I don’t update the blog for a few weeks and then I just post and post and post, generally it was setup to be a personal blog just for friends and family, then I kind of turned it into a help guide for iPhone tutorials and generally techy help and now it seems to have gone back to being a personal blog again, which is exactly what I want it to be. I will still post things I come across that are technical but may generally fade them away into another blog with a completely different name, but that is still a long way off yet, will just have to see how things go.
Web designs, blogs and just generally anything web is something I like doing in my spare time and my website www.miniatureschnauzerbreeders.co.uk is currently being worked on, this website got lots of visits per day from all over the world, but the way I had initially set it up in first place just wasn’t suitable, so when I move hosting companies to one in the UK I decided to close it down and restart work on it, fingers crossed it should be up and running in the next few month depending how much time I do have to spend on it, especially with it only being a hobby and not my day to day job, finding time is really difficult.

Hmm there is a thought.

Twitter news
I am really starting to get into twitter now, I seem to be getting more and more daily followers and also a celebrity follow which I am chuffed about, @wossy has recently started following me and this is the one and only Jonathan Ross, at present he has a whopping 207,287 followers and is currently following 3,370. I don’t expect him to be following my updates but still nice knowing I have a celebrity who has click the follow button on my twitter feed.
Also on some of my past tweets if you follow you may have noticed me going on about checking my @replies more often, this is because I never knew how to check them until the other day! Yep I use twitter daily and have only just found out how to check my @replies on twitterberry tut tut shameless I know, but my excuse is I don’t care, I have a blog =)
