Apple TV Jailbroken with Pwnage Tool 4.1
Finally, I have managed to get my Apple TV jailbroken -
I tried everything on Windows to get it working and read up somewhere the limra1n was meant to be able to successfully jailbreak Apple TV. This wasn’t the case and found myself stuck with a nice sized hocky puck! Stuck in restore mode, quick flick back into iTunes and restored and we were back to square one.
So eventually I did the following….
Jailbreak Apple TV 2G running on iOS 4.1 with PwnageTool 4.1 for Mac
1. Start PwnageTool 4.1 and select Apple TV 2G model as shown in the screenshot below.
2. PwnageTool will now automatically detect the correct firmware for your Apple TV.
3. Click on Yes when you see any pop-up message.
4. Now PwnageTool will create the custom IPSW file for your Apple TV 2G which will be jailbroken.
5. Now its time to put the Apple TV into DFU mode. follow the steps to enter DFU mode:
- Connect your Apple TV with your Computer via microUSB.
- Now reboot your Apple TV by holding down Menu + Down buttons together for around 6 seconds.
- After reboot, immediately hold Menu + Play until you see the message in iTunes saying that Apple TV in recovery mode is detected.
6. Once your Apple TV 2G in DFU mode, next step is to restore your Apple TV 2G to the custom firmware 4.1 file.
7. Start iTunes, Hold down Option/Alt key on keyboard and click the Restore button in iTunes.
8. Now, go to the location for your custom firmware 4.1 file, Select the custom .ipsw file and click on Open.
9. Now sit back and just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 4.1 on your Apple TV 2G. After the installation is done, your Apple TV 2G will restart automatically.
Than you should now have a jailbroken Apple TV with full root access, running on iOS 4.1.
VBS script to get a remote computer’s serial number
I had a task to do at the office the other day of getting Asset information, I got the companies asset details no problem, but when it came to getting the serial number… well I forgot, not a very good start to see the least to say I had to travel 270 miles to the office.
I had a quick search on the net and finally came across this script:
ComputerName = InputBox(“Machine Name To Query”)
winmgmt1 = “winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!//”& ComputerName &”"
Set SerialN = GetObject( winmgmt1 ).InstancesOf (“Win32_BIOS”)For each Serial in SerialN
MsgBox “Serial Number: ” & Serial.SerialNumber
Next
How to use:
1) Fire up Notepad
2) Paste the above into it
3) Save the file with the extension .VBS
4) Double click
5) Enter the remote computer name
6) Voila the serial number will appear
Something so simple, saved me a lot of time / miles and fuel!
Hope it helps for you!
Im slacking
I have so much I could have blogged about over the last few months but it just doesn’t cross my mind to do it anymore.
I think what I will probably do is type up some of the things I have been upto and post them on here anyways, it may not have been on the correct date but still, will give me something to read about just how geeky I was when I’m a little bit older, everynow and then I go back to a certain date and find out what I was blogging about say a year ago today, usually its something I have forgotten about until I read it again
Sorry for all the updates that will be coming!
iPhone 3GS 4.0 Jailbroken!
Well what a morning, after going to sleep last night I had no idea what today would have in store with me. I found myself checking my tweets when I got into work with a mention from @SirTrott asking if I had jailbroken my iPhone yet. This was fantastic to my eyes and straight away I thought damn, I’m at work with no access to iTunes and cannot do it until I get home.
Then a quick search on the internet and found out that you no longer need to do it on a PC/MAC. If you simply browse to http://jailbreakme.com it does it all for you on your iDevice!
After numerous attempts to do it this morning I finally gave up and decided to try the http://modmyi.com mirror which seems much quicker and can be found http://jailbreakme.modmyi.com
I now have my iPhone 3GS jailbroken and cydia is once again on my home screen. This is fantastic new and have been waiting for this for some time now.
Easy peasy for you to do.
Browse to http://jailbreakme.com or http://jailbreakme.modmyi.com
slide the slider bar
wait a few minutes
bingo your done! enjoy your new jailbroken device.
The jailbreak works for the following:
A fantastic weekend in the lakes
Saturday afternoon, me, the wife and the two dogs had a really nice drive upto the lake district to spend a couple of days with the in laws. They had booked a cottage for a week and had invited us up to have a short break. I have to say I haven’t been to the lake district before and what more can I say other than “it really is an amazing place”. I loved every minute of it.
I was excited for the drive (first long run I have taken my new car on) and also just the fact I love driving. The journey up from Yorkshire is a superb drive and enjoyed every minute of it (except the roadworks on the A1) as soon as we got to scotch corner it all changed and we started seeing the fantastic scenery and also the fantastic quiet roads.
We arrived in Uldale and were highly amused to see we were in a line of traffic on a country lane going very slowly indeed, not because the roads were bendy and windy, nope, not at all, we were not the only “people” using the road… A sheep was running down the centre of the road and we couldn’t pass. Eventually the sheep moved to the food trough and we entered into the small village of Uldale. We pulled upto the two bedroom cottage that we were staying at and met up with the in laws.
That night we had a trip to the local pub (1 minute walk away) called the “Snooty Fox” http://www.snootyfoxuldale.co.uk/ we had no idea what it was going to be like and I honestly thought it was going to be quiet with only a few locals in. How wrong I was, we only just managed to get in for food and was seated at table 11. The food was amazing and I could see why people came from all around to have meals at the bar.
The following morning we had decided to take a trip out and take the dogs (Archie, Dylan and Wolfie) to a beach somewhere. The mother in law suggested we go to St Bees, I had never heard of it but after a quick look on google images the beach looked amazing, although when we got there it was a completely different story. It was full of pebbles and not the type of beach we were after. After a 1hr 30min walk we headed back to the cottage, the inlaws went and found a shop in cockermouth to get some food and they returned back shortly after.
Later that day me and the wife decided we were going to have a look at house prices and we came across an amazing 3 bed cottage in the middle of no where that was empty and in our price range. So us being us, decided to take a drive out and have a look at it. Wow it was amazing, the perfect house for us and in the perfect quiet location (people who know me will know that I don’t really like people) and loves a quiet life. We are still having conversations about the house and thinking of ways how we can achieve our goal of one day living in such a great place and in such a great house.
Later that night we returned to the Snooty Fox and had another meal, this time I opted for the pork which didn’t really settle well on my stomach, I returned home early with a dodgy stomach but personally I don’t think it was anything to do with the food as it was lovely. (a little dry though, could have done with some gravy!)
The next morning (Monday) we headed out to another beach to walk the dogs and wow, another amazing place not far from Carlisle and the beach was fantastic, the rain was belting down and we were getting wet through, the dogs loved it, the wife loved it, i loved it and the in laws did too. After the walk we headed back to the car and I got changed into some dry clothes before hitting the road back down to Yorkshire.
We headed home and realised that we are meant to live up there and also where we want to end up.
iPad Jailbroken with Spirit
OK I know I jailbroke my iPad some time ago now but I have only just got around to writing a blog post about it.
Since first getting the iPad I really wanted to jailbreak it but I was too scared, then one day, I received something that made the decision for me. Yep that’s right lets just say I received a bill.
OK so first of all here is how you jailbreak the iPad with spirit.
- Your iPad must be running firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2 (not 3.2.1). (some of the firmware listed there is only avalaiable for the iPhone.)
- Your device must be activated and not stuck in restore mode or recovery mode.
- You will need iTunes 9.2 installed.
- Download Spirit Jailbreak app from the following links: WINDOWS : MAC : LINUX
- Connect your device to your computer.
- Launch the App
- Click the button
- Within seconds you are complete and jailbroken.
Please note the above is from my experience using the MAC version although I guess there wont be much difference with the Windows version, its the Linux one I am not sure of.
Now I love having Cydia / 3rd party applications as well of, Winterboard!!
