HOWTO: Jailbreak iPhone 4S and iPad 2

So I got home, logged onto twitter and found out the iPad2 and 4S jailbreak untethered had been released.

Real simple to do, download Absinthe from http://cache.greenpois0n.com/dl/absinthe-mac-0.1.2-1.zip

  • Launch on your Mac
  • Disable Passcode Lock
  • Hit Jailbreak
  • Wait a few moments
  • Launch the Absinthe logo on the iPhone
  • Your phone will look as though its restoring
  • When back up there is Cydia :)

Enjoy your jailbroken A5 devices!

Update: If your phone doesn’t look as though it is doing anything when the Absinthe logo is launched on your device. Simply do a reboot

Update2: It looks as though greenpois0n.com is having problems at the moment, you may be getting “Error Establishing Database Connection” when you try and launch the Absinthe application on your iPhone 4S or iPad2.

iPad went strange today..

So, yesterday I Jailbroke my iPad running 5.0.1 with @pod2g‘s untethered jailbreak for A4 devices.

I was playing around with Cydia and installing some of the usual applications like:

iFile, Winterboard, SBSettings as well as some more random applications, as soon as I find the website where I was getting the ideas from I will list them all. However when I rebooted my iPad it came back up and let me log in fine, however I noticed the icons were strangely spaced out (which makes me think Winterboard) may have been to blame but until I replicate the error I cannot be sure. All of my applications thought they were running on an iPhone. My touch screen wouldnt work within applications so I couldnt remove apps from Cydia either.

The only way to get around it was to restore and re-jailbreak.

Investigations continue.

UPDATE: I did also install the FullForce application

Just upgraded my iPad 1 to iOS 5.0.1: Problems

Yesterday I decided it was time to upgrade my iPad to iOS 5.0.1 (great timing with the untethered jailbreak getting released this morning) so far, I’m not that impressed. I keep getting really bad lags and applications that just force close.

Not sure why, but I’m just about to jailbreak, so I will see what that allows me to do and install from Cydia.

Anyone else had problems with iOS 5.0.1 running on iPad 1?

UPDATE, now I have jailbroken it’s still randomly closing applications when it wants to. Investigations continue

iPhone 4S speaker problems

So today I noticed a problem with my new 4S speaker. I downloaded the 12 days of christmas application and also continued to download the top gear episodes that were todays gift.

When I started playing the video it sounded a little strange, I covered up the right speaker and you could tell something was in the way of the speaker. I then continued to cover up the left speaker and there was no change.

It appears the left hand speaker in my iPhone is not working, I have tried all the usual restoring firmware etc but still had no effect. I made my appointment at the Apple store tomorrow to see if they will swap it out. If they don’t have any in stock I may return the phone and stick with my iPhone 4, but that is another blog post as to why I may just do that.

I will update this post tomorrow when I get back from the Apple store.

So I decided to cancel my appointment at the Apple store. Reason being from a reply on the comments made me look for something so simple. However looking at the iPhone 4 specs this seems to be the same. I will check on my iPhone 4 to see if the issue is the same and if it is, I won’t do anything and just put it down to a stupid moment I was having. If it doesn’t it is def going back to Apple to check.

iTunes Match – VirginMedia Problems

So yesterday I posted about iTunes Match upload problems on my slow internet connection. Well I say slow, it’s currently 10mb download and not too sure about the upload speed.

After some searching on the internet I came across a Virgin Media blog where quite a few people are complaining about iTunes Match uploading music to the cloud and people seem to be coming across quite a few errors, some not being able to upload and getting error messages within iTunes and some just taking forever. I myself am in the taking forever to upload category.

Apparently VirginMedia have a cap in place where if you upload too much data within the times of 3pm – 8pm you will be auto lowered onto the capped upload speed. However I tried this morning (I currently have 386) that need to be uploaded. However after 2 hours, it had only uploaded 7 songs.

I have a nasty feeling that on the 13th January when I get upgraded to 100mb broadband, it’s not going to make any difference.

I also read that some people tethered onto their O2 iPhone connection and the iTunes Match started uploading quicker than it was on a Virgin Media 100mb Fibre Optic connection.

I hope Virgin sort this out soon, you would have thought with Fibre connections this sort of thing would be small fry to upload a few hundred mb of data.

iTunes Match – First thoughts

So today I subscribed to iTunes Match. Why?

1) I wanted all my music available where ever I went.
2) I wanted all of the album artwork that was available to me
3) I wanted someone to sort out my music collection while I drank coffee and which was all automatic

This works really well, however one thing I am disappointed with was the ability to not rename the file name of my music. iTunes match obviously had in mind what all the albums were but it didn’t rename the tracks that were in different styles. I wanted all my music to look similar. I have file names in capital letters, lower case and was hoping iTunes would sort all these out when it downloaded the album artwork for all of my music. However it didn’t.

This was a huge disappointment for me and for that reason I decided to turn off my auto renew subscription. I am going to see how much i use iTunes match and try to justify to myself is it worth the £22 that I paid for the year.

Another grumble I had, not anything to do with apple, or I don’t think it is, is how long it takes to upload the songs that iTunes doesn’t already have.

I have had iTunes running all day and uploading music files to “the cloud” but this is still on going as you can see from here

I think this may have something to do with my crappy upload speed but Im not sure yet. Time will tell.

Overall I am half satisfied and half not, I really wanted all my music to have a standard naming convention which iTunes match simply just hasn’t done.
