A fantastic weekend in the lakes

Saturday afternoon, me, the wife and the two dogs had a really nice drive upto the lake district to spend a couple of days with the in laws. They had booked a cottage for a week and had invited us up to have a short break. I have to say I haven’t been to the lake district before and what more can I say other than “it really is an amazing place”. I loved every minute of it.

I was excited for the drive (first long run I have taken my new car on) and also just the fact I love driving. The journey up from Yorkshire is a superb drive and enjoyed every minute of it (except the roadworks on the A1) as soon as we got to scotch corner it all changed and we started seeing the fantastic scenery and also the fantastic quiet roads.

We arrived in Uldale and were highly amused to see we were in a line of traffic on a country lane going very slowly indeed, not because the roads were bendy and windy, nope, not at all, we were not the only “people” using the road… A sheep was running down the centre of the road and we couldn’t pass. Eventually the sheep moved to the food trough and we entered into the small village of Uldale. We pulled upto the two bedroom cottage that we were staying at and met up with the in laws.

That night we had a trip to the local pub (1 minute walk away) called the “Snooty Fox” http://www.snootyfoxuldale.co.uk/ we had no idea what it was going to be like and I honestly thought it was going to be quiet with only a few locals in. How wrong I was, we only just managed to get in for food and was seated at table 11. The food was amazing and I could see why people came from all around to have meals at the bar.

The following morning we had decided to take a trip out and take the dogs (Archie, Dylan and Wolfie) to a beach somewhere. The mother in law suggested we go to St Bees, I had never heard of it but after a quick look on google images the beach looked amazing, although when we got there it was a completely different story. It was full of pebbles and not the type of beach we were after. After a 1hr 30min walk we headed back to the cottage, the inlaws went and found a shop in cockermouth to get some food and they returned back shortly after.

Later that day me and the wife decided we were going to have a look at house prices and we came across an amazing 3 bed cottage in the middle of no where that was empty and in our price range. So us being us, decided to take a drive out and have a look at it. Wow it was amazing, the perfect house for us and in the perfect quiet location (people who know me will know that I don’t really like people) and loves a quiet life. We are still having conversations about the house and thinking of ways how we can achieve our goal of one day living in such a great place and in such a great house.

Later that night we returned to the Snooty Fox and had another meal, this time I opted for the pork which didn’t really settle well on my stomach, I returned home early with a dodgy stomach but personally I don’t think it was anything to do with the food as it was lovely. (a little dry though, could have done with some gravy!)

The next morning (Monday) we headed out to another beach to walk the dogs and wow, another amazing place not far from Carlisle and the beach was fantastic, the rain was belting down and we were getting wet through, the dogs loved it, the wife loved it, i loved it and the in laws did too. After the walk we headed back to the car and I got changed into some dry clothes before hitting the road back down to Yorkshire.

We headed home and realised that we are meant to live up there and also where we want to end up.

Great news about Dylan

Just had the vets call about Dylan and I’m pleased to say it’s fantastic news, he will be coming home at 2pm this afternoon. That’s two hours from now, the reason being they need to wait for his sedation to wear off so he is back to his normal self.

They have sent off for various allergy tests, blood tests, stool samples and they should be in next week.

The nurse has said his x-rays showed up nothing serious although his intestines were really inflamed. They have prescribed some antibiotics and also some stomach lining fluid (that smells really nice apparently) that we have to inject into his mouth twice a day.

This has really made my day and I’m sure Archie won’t be moping about anymore later on. Now to head to the pet store and buy him some new toys for been such a brave little dog.
:-) happy Jon for once. Picturepicturepicture of Dylan coming a little later on when I have him home.

I would just like to add that vets4pets in Barnsley have been amazing once again, they never let us down and I always have trust in them when they look after my animals!!

Dylan at the vets.

For those of you who know me, you will know I am crazily in love with my dogs and treat them how you would expect someone to treat their kids. Well last night Dylan, our black miniature schnauzer was rushed into the vets as he was passing blood.

He has had this before and undergone lots and lots of tests but they never came to anything. Now it’s happened again the vets are going to do more blood tests, x-rays and will be keeping him in again tonight.

Even though I have another miniature schnauzer (Archie) and a cat (catty) in the house, the house still feels empty and not the same as it usually does. Archie is moping about and keeps smelling where Dylan lays and just doesn’t know what to do with himself.

The vets have said that if they don’t find anything on the x-rays tomorrow he should be good to come home.

We have had some issues with the insurance company which is totally unbelievable and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing when on the phone to them, that is another blog post but believe me I won’t be staying with the company in question and will be complaining to the max later on.

Fingers crossed dylan will be ok.

Theme change

Yes so it’s happened again, over the past few months I have let my blog slip and neglected it. I’m hoping that with me getting the iPad this will change and I will start blogging again.

I have started the kick off with choosing a much better (or so I think) theme for my site. The theme I have chosen is one by woo themes and is very minimalistic, just the way I like it.

I’m hoping that all my blogging from now on will be done from the ipad and I don’t actually take a look at the site, every time I look I always decided to change something son for the time being I am going to leave it as it is.

Let me know what you think of the theme.

Twilight fever.

Something that never really interested me up until now, but over the past weekend I found myself buying “twilight” and “new moon” in HD. So this weekend all I can say is I have gone from knowing absolutely nothing about the twilight saga to becoming a fan and yes of course I am “Team Edward”

I shall also be buying “eclipse” when it is released on blu ray.

First post from iPad.

Well this is my first post from my iPad.

What do I think? It’s hard to hold, is going to take some getting used to, apps are expensive, takes ages to activate the micro sim. But all in all I’m happyish with it for now and still getting to grips with it.

At least the iPad is working unlike my iPhone 3GS. Its been upgraded to iPhone 4.0 and with me now being on o2 I cannot use it yet, I have to wait for o2 to unlock it officially so I can use it on vodafone. So all in all my perfect day of gadgets is not going all that great.
Ask me again tomorrow how am feeling.
