My exciting night tonight
I’ve been waiting for this night for so long, a night, just sitting in with the girl and watching movies and eating pizza. That’s all that is going to happen tonight. It always seems like we do so much together but we don’t actually feel like we get anytime together. Tonight that should change and we can have some quality time together and basically nothing else. ;
- Despicable Me
- Men In Black (Obviously my choice, mainly because It’s such a good film and secondly… the girl has never seen it!)
Update:
The message that was sent was:
Why?! You wanking?! Can you dig pizza hut menu out? It’s in drawer next to sink. Choose what you want and we’ll order when I get in x
I stopped smoking with #Champix
Well as the title explains, yes, I have in fact stopped smoking with the Champix tablets. I have been stopped now for 1 week and 3 days.
When I first started taking the tablets, I was determined that they were not going to work for me, with me still smoking at the time and taking them I couldn’t see how they could possibly work. I read up on the internet a little for reviews of them and I was shocked at the horror stories that people were putting.
· Driving through red lights just because they could
· Smashing the house up
· Turning really nasty
· Suicide
This made me a little scared of taking them, but like everything you don’t know unless you try. So I started taking them and experienced some of the standard side effects such as:
· Constant Headaches
· Memory not as good
· Feeling a little grumpy
· Aggressive driving
I hadn’t ever used my car horn once since I had my new car (well over a year) and within a couple of days of being on the tablets I was pipping at everyone for the slightest of things. I remember one woman who was at the traffic lights in front of me waiting for them to change, as soon as they changed and she wasn’t quick enough off the line (5 seconds I think I was waiting) I was straight on the horn pipping at her. Strange.
Another example was when I went to the supermarket, I was looking at the deodorants and the men’s isle while my girlfriend went around shopping. By the time I had finished I tried finding her and looked down every isle, she was at the very end of the supermarket. Now what I remember was looking at the deodorants for around 5 minutes tops, when in fact I had been stood there looking for a good 25 minutes. This came as a shock to me as it didn’t seem that long. Also while on the same trip I came to the freezer isle. I was looking for some Yorkshire puddings, when I eventually found them I opened the freezer and what seemed like 30 seconds turned out was about 2 minutes. A lady started talking to me and asked if I was alright. I replied “Yes thanks why?” her response was “You have been stood with the freezer door open just staring for about 2 minutes, can I just get past and get something” Yet another time that really doesn’t make sense.
Apart from those I haven’t really noticed anything else, people are commenting at work saying that I don’t look my normal self, but I don’t notice. They keep asking me if I’m ok and I simply reply “Yeah ta” because I don’t feel any difference in myself.
It’s a really strange feeling when you are getting close to your stop date, I can remember smoking and I would have a couple of drags on the cig and would throw it away without even realising. Eventually I would be having only 2 a day, down from 23ish+. The taste of the cigarette changes the more you get into the tablets, it’s a difficult explanation but I’ll always remember what one person told me. The only way he could describe it was. “It’s like going to a pub, ordering a pint of beer, you start drinking it and it tastes like water” basically saying that it doesn’t taste how you used to remember it. Mind games.
So I have been on the tablets for around 3 weeks and just started my 5 th week. I am seriously considering coming off the tablets after the 6 th week. (it should be a 12 week course) the reason being I simply do not have the time to go to the Dr’s every week and keep taking time off work. It may be different at your Dr’s but at mine I have to do the following:
· Nurse check-up (check carbon monoxide levels)
· Nurse gives me form for Dr
· I have to book at Dr week after for repeat prescription
· I collect prescription
· I have to make another appointment at the nurse for the following week to check carbon monoxide levels
You get the idea, I have to do the following for 12 weeks. To make it worse, the nurse is at a different clinic to my Dr and the nurse only works 9:30am – 4pm Monday – Friday
However I work 8am – 4pm Monday – Friday, so as you can imagine this would not go down too well with my boss and company.
I still get some craving’s to have a cig but they are not as bad so far I have managed to go without one for 10 days.
Habits I didn’t think I could break
· First cig of the morning
· Cig after food
· When having a bad day
· In the car on the way to work
· On long journeys
So far so good! I will keep this post updated with more developments and updates.
UPDATE 12th December 2011
I came off the tablets 1 week 4 days ago. This was out of personal choice due to me having to attend a Christmas party and I knew alcohol would be involved. I came of the tablets a couple of days before the party and I did actually smoke that night. I knew all along I would do. Not the attitude to have but still you win some and you lose some. However I am still off the tablets and haven’t had a cig since.
I may have to go back on the tablets shortly though as I can feel the cravings coming back more than ever. At this point I can’t see that there will ever be a permanent solution for all smokers.
More updates to follow with progress.
First session back at the gym
First session back at the gym
Today saw me return to the dreaded Gym. I haven’t been for well over 5 months and really needed to get back into it, not just for my health but for my bank balance! I am paying for something that I am not using. So instead of filling Duncan Bannatynes bank balance for absolutely nothing in return I thought it would be a good time to return. Also have a holiday coming up in September and could really do with being in shape!
Even though I haven’t been for so long I did do my best and run solid on the treadmill for 50 minutes and then did 30 minutes on the cross trainer.
I can really feel it and my ankles feel like they are going to give way any minute! The feeling getting off the treadmill was worse than being on the booze all night long.
Anyways an update will follow shortly about how many times I manage to go in a week and how many times I get injury’s! Also future blog post will be about my new bike and me!
A fantastic weekend in the lakes
Saturday afternoon, me, the wife and the two dogs had a really nice drive upto the lake district to spend a couple of days with the in laws. They had booked a cottage for a week and had invited us up to have a short break. I have to say I haven’t been to the lake district before and what more can I say other than “it really is an amazing place”. I loved every minute of it.
I was excited for the drive (first long run I have taken my new car on) and also just the fact I love driving. The journey up from Yorkshire is a superb drive and enjoyed every minute of it (except the roadworks on the A1) as soon as we got to scotch corner it all changed and we started seeing the fantastic scenery and also the fantastic quiet roads.
We arrived in Uldale and were highly amused to see we were in a line of traffic on a country lane going very slowly indeed, not because the roads were bendy and windy, nope, not at all, we were not the only “people” using the road… A sheep was running down the centre of the road and we couldn’t pass. Eventually the sheep moved to the food trough and we entered into the small village of Uldale. We pulled upto the two bedroom cottage that we were staying at and met up with the in laws.
That night we had a trip to the local pub (1 minute walk away) called the “Snooty Fox” http://www.snootyfoxuldale.co.uk/ we had no idea what it was going to be like and I honestly thought it was going to be quiet with only a few locals in. How wrong I was, we only just managed to get in for food and was seated at table 11. The food was amazing and I could see why people came from all around to have meals at the bar.
The following morning we had decided to take a trip out and take the dogs (Archie, Dylan and Wolfie) to a beach somewhere. The mother in law suggested we go to St Bees, I had never heard of it but after a quick look on google images the beach looked amazing, although when we got there it was a completely different story. It was full of pebbles and not the type of beach we were after. After a 1hr 30min walk we headed back to the cottage, the inlaws went and found a shop in cockermouth to get some food and they returned back shortly after.
Later that day me and the wife decided we were going to have a look at house prices and we came across an amazing 3 bed cottage in the middle of no where that was empty and in our price range. So us being us, decided to take a drive out and have a look at it. Wow it was amazing, the perfect house for us and in the perfect quiet location (people who know me will know that I don’t really like people) and loves a quiet life. We are still having conversations about the house and thinking of ways how we can achieve our goal of one day living in such a great place and in such a great house.
Later that night we returned to the Snooty Fox and had another meal, this time I opted for the pork which didn’t really settle well on my stomach, I returned home early with a dodgy stomach but personally I don’t think it was anything to do with the food as it was lovely. (a little dry though, could have done with some gravy!)
The next morning (Monday) we headed out to another beach to walk the dogs and wow, another amazing place not far from Carlisle and the beach was fantastic, the rain was belting down and we were getting wet through, the dogs loved it, the wife loved it, i loved it and the in laws did too. After the walk we headed back to the car and I got changed into some dry clothes before hitting the road back down to Yorkshire.
We headed home and realised that we are meant to live up there and also where we want to end up.
Social networking sites – still taking over my life
A while bagged I blogged about “turning into an internet and social networking freak“ well this is still the case but also has evolved into even more social networking and internet sites.
I keep finding myself looking for more, sharing things I do, saying what I want to say and basically expanding the bubble I find myself in most nights. You would think that someone who works on computers all day long would be sick and tired of them by the time he got home, but not with me, I always find new things that I want to do, talk about, find out and basically just waste hours and hours online looking for the next ”big thing“. I know deep down that the next big thing won’t be anything to do with me, but still, I always have to keep trying.
Previous Sites:
❑ Facebook
❑ Twitter
❑ Wordpress
❑ MySpace
The above are just some of the sites that I have been on in the past and only three of them are still used, but I still leave my MySpace account active, why? I have no idea to be honest, maybe one day it may start back up? MySpace has already changed lots since I last logged in back in 2008 and I am curious to find out how its changed and if its something that I would be interested in using again, but for the time being I will pass and just continue using the sites that I am highly active on such as Facebook, Twitter and my WordPress blogs.
There has been some more sites that I have just joined and I put this down to my iPhone, the phone is no longer and phone and is taking over my life, the ability of updating twitter, Facebook and even blogging from your phone in my eyes is a fantastic idea but can get highly addictive. (I for one am addicted) I go through phases with twitter and Facebook and find myself either using one or the other, at this moment in time I feel the need to update twitter more than anything else. If you follow me @rhodzy you will be able to see that for yourselves and just see how much I do tweet.
At the moment I have protected my tweets as I am getting a little wary about all the spammers that are following me and wondering to myself what information they are gathering about me, maybe a slack tweet from me could result in identity theft and I wouldn’t have a clue! Maybe even a drunken tweet that you forget you send, who knows it could be anything. Recently I have also been having a clear up on Facebook removing friends who I know longer speak to or people I have added / added me who we ”once knew each other, added each other, but never chatted“ I don’t see the point in that anymore and come to the conclusion that its quality not quantity.

One day I will learn…..
