A fantastic weekend in the lakes

Saturday afternoon, me, the wife and the two dogs had a really nice drive upto the lake district to spend a couple of days with the in laws. They had booked a cottage for a week and had invited us up to have a short break. I have to say I haven’t been to the lake district before and what more can I say other than “it really is an amazing place”. I loved every minute of it.

I was excited for the drive (first long run I have taken my new car on) and also just the fact I love driving. The journey up from Yorkshire is a superb drive and enjoyed every minute of it (except the roadworks on the A1) as soon as we got to scotch corner it all changed and we started seeing the fantastic scenery and also the fantastic quiet roads.

We arrived in Uldale and were highly amused to see we were in a line of traffic on a country lane going very slowly indeed, not because the roads were bendy and windy, nope, not at all, we were not the only “people” using the road… A sheep was running down the centre of the road and we couldn’t pass. Eventually the sheep moved to the food trough and we entered into the small village of Uldale. We pulled upto the two bedroom cottage that we were staying at and met up with the in laws.

That night we had a trip to the local pub (1 minute walk away) called the “Snooty Fox” http://www.snootyfoxuldale.co.uk/ we had no idea what it was going to be like and I honestly thought it was going to be quiet with only a few locals in. How wrong I was, we only just managed to get in for food and was seated at table 11. The food was amazing and I could see why people came from all around to have meals at the bar.

The following morning we had decided to take a trip out and take the dogs (Archie, Dylan and Wolfie) to a beach somewhere. The mother in law suggested we go to St Bees, I had never heard of it but after a quick look on google images the beach looked amazing, although when we got there it was a completely different story. It was full of pebbles and not the type of beach we were after. After a 1hr 30min walk we headed back to the cottage, the inlaws went and found a shop in cockermouth to get some food and they returned back shortly after.

Later that day me and the wife decided we were going to have a look at house prices and we came across an amazing 3 bed cottage in the middle of no where that was empty and in our price range. So us being us, decided to take a drive out and have a look at it. Wow it was amazing, the perfect house for us and in the perfect quiet location (people who know me will know that I don’t really like people) and loves a quiet life. We are still having conversations about the house and thinking of ways how we can achieve our goal of one day living in such a great place and in such a great house.

Later that night we returned to the Snooty Fox and had another meal, this time I opted for the pork which didn’t really settle well on my stomach, I returned home early with a dodgy stomach but personally I don’t think it was anything to do with the food as it was lovely. (a little dry though, could have done with some gravy!)

The next morning (Monday) we headed out to another beach to walk the dogs and wow, another amazing place not far from Carlisle and the beach was fantastic, the rain was belting down and we were getting wet through, the dogs loved it, the wife loved it, i loved it and the in laws did too. After the walk we headed back to the car and I got changed into some dry clothes before hitting the road back down to Yorkshire.

We headed home and realised that we are meant to live up there and also where we want to end up.

Social networking sites – still taking over my life

A while bagged I blogged about “turning into an internet and social networking freak“ well this is still the case but also has evolved into even more social networking and internet sites.

I keep finding myself looking for more, sharing things I do, saying what I want to say and basically expanding the bubble I find myself in most nights. You would think that someone who works on computers all day long would be sick and tired of them by the time he got home, but not with me, I always find new things that I want to do, talk about, find out and basically just waste hours and hours online looking for the next ”big thing“. I know deep down that the next big thing won’t be anything to do with me, but still, I always have to keep trying.

Previous Sites:
        ?        FacebookFacebookFacebook
        ?        TwitterTwitterTwitter
        ?        WordPressWordPressWordPress
        ?        MySpaceMySpaceMySpace

The above are just some of the sites that I have been on in the past and only three of them are still used, but I still leave my MySpace account active, why? I have no idea to be honest, maybe one day it may start back up? MySpace has already changed lots since I last logged in back in 2008 and I am curious to find out how its changed and if its something that I would be interested in using again, but for the time being I will pass and just continue using the sites that I am highly active on such as Facebook, Twitter and my WordPress blogs.

There has been some more sites that I have just joined and I put this down to my iPhone, the phone is no longer and phone and is taking over my life, the ability of updating twitter, Facebook and even blogging from your phone in my eyes is a fantastic idea but can get highly addictive. (I for one am addicted) I go through phases with twitter and Facebook and find myself either using one or the other, at this moment in time I feel the need to update twitter more than anything else. If you follow me @rhodzy you will be able to see that for yourselves and just see how much I do tweet.

At the moment I have protected my tweets as I am getting a little wary about all the spammers that are following me and wondering to myself what information they are gathering about me, maybe a slack tweet from me could result in identity theft and I wouldn’t have a clue! Maybe even a drunken tweet that you forget you send, who knows it could be anything. Recently I have also been having a clear up on Facebook removing friends who I know longer speak to or people I have added / added me who we ”once knew each other, added each other, but never chatted“ I don’t see the point in that anymore and come to the conclusion that its quality not quantity.

Not sure why I have joined more sites, but I find myself looking for more and more and thinking when will it end? Soon it will be a full time job to keep up with all the sites / services that I am signed up to.

One day I will learn…..

I suddenly had this thought while driving…

Just got back from driving and I suddenly had this thought which took me back to being a child. Now I’m not too sure why I thought this but it just kinda popped into my head and thought I best blog about it before I forget about for another 6 or 7 years.

It may just be me but can you remember when you were small and you used to go to loads of your mates houses? I can and one thing that came to my mind today is the different smell that you get in different houses.

I can remember the smell in our house, it smelt homely, I can remember the smell in my cousins house, which was different to home, I can remember the smell in my mates house which was different to my home and I can also remember the smell in my other mates house which just smelt dirty.

Strange thought and not sure why I suddenly thought about it but do any of you guys remember things like this?

I can’t say that I notice it now I am older, everything just smells the same, maybe it was me just being a weird child? Or maybe I just have the nose of a dog?

Oh the weather outside is frightful

Well it certainly has been one of those days today, I was supposed to go and travel down Bournemouth for work and spend a couple of nights down there but as you can probably tell by me saying “I was supposed to go” kind of gives it away that I didn’t actually make it.

I had a warning from someone at the office down there last week asking if I was sure I would make it as for this week there has been a severe weather warning and like most things, I just thought the weather is never right, they didn’t see the floods coming nor did they see the bad winter we had last year nor did they expect the one we had back in December 2009.  So me being me said yeah I would be fine.

I woke up at 6am and there was heavy snow outside and it was still coming down. I went and defrosted the cars getting ready for the journey as I thought it would stop and probably clear and so my wife could get to work also I did her car too. (How very wrong I was) I can honestly say I have never seen this much snow in my life, its something you expect to see in films or a James bond movie when fighting in Russia or something. It is very fun to play in and watch the dogs run about and also very exciting, it’s bring out the child in me.

It has continued to snow for 11 hours solid with no signs of it slowing down, as I look out of my window right now the flakes are actually starting to get worse and bigger and come down a little slower but still much larger flakes! There has been a severe weather warning on the news for my area (south Yorkshire) and also for (west Yorkshire) where I work.

If the news is right the snow will continue through the night and will also continue for the rest of the week.

This country isn’t supposed to be this white over with snow! But I love it!

Check out the Gallery below, you will see some of the photos I took with my iPhone and I will soon be updating with more photos when I get them off my camera!

Enjoy!

Oh by the way when I measured how deep the snow was in my garden at 4:30pm it was 6.5 inches. I will do the same thing in the morning and update this post!

How strange, same thought last year

I have just been looking through my blog posts for december 2007 where I found this post

It’s really got me thinking because I was only thinking that I cannot get into the christmas spirit this year either, this year is not something to do with moving house but something a little more serious and will be very glad when it’s over. It’s kind of taking over my mind this year and I guess it will till the end of the year, just be glad when it’s all over.

Christmas is over over rated and just an excuse to spend lots and lots of money and buy people presents that they don’t even want.

Bah humbug – really starting to think am turning into the Grinch.

Xbox 360 is now alive!

xbox360balllogolarge.jpg

Some time ago (around a year ago I think if not longer) I was playing on my Xbox 360 on Gears of War 2 when bang! I had the dreaded RROD (Red ring of death) which is basically three red lights and then you cannot use your xbox again until you get it repaired.

I didnt bother to get it fixed, well I did that is a lie, I did the towel trick which is basically wrapping the xbox up in a towel and leave it powered on for around 20 minutes to over heat. Remove the towel and try booting and it worked for me, well I say it worked, it worked for around 10 minutes before I got the three red lights again.

I just gave in and threw it under the stairs and didn’t think anything else of it.

Monday I decided I was going to fix it, so I took it to bits cleaned the thermal paste from the processor and heat sinks, applied new paste, removed the xclamps and put in screws, built back up and YES! It works, we are not back up and running. Just a shame I have been banned from xbox live.

I am getting a new xbox 360 on friday from my brother and will be playing on live with that one.
