VBS script to get a remote computer’s serial number

I had a task to do at the office the other day of getting Asset information, I got the companies asset details no problem, but when it came to getting the serial number… well I forgot, not a very good start to see the least to say I had to travel 270 miles to the office.

I had a quick search on the net and finally came across this script:

ComputerName = InputBox(“Machine Name To Query”)

winmgmt1 = “winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!//”& ComputerName &”"
Set SerialN = GetObject( winmgmt1 ).InstancesOf (“Win32_BIOS”)

For each Serial in SerialN
MsgBox “Serial Number: ” & Serial.SerialNumber
Next

How to use:

1) Fire up Notepad
2) Paste the above into it
3) Save the file with the extension .VBS
4) Double click
5) Enter the remote computer name
6) Voila the serial number will appear

Something so simple, saved me a lot of time / miles and fuel!
Hope it helps for you!

iPhone 3GS 4.0 Jailbroken!

Well what a morning, after going to sleep last night I had no idea what today would have in store with me. I found myself checking my tweets when I got into work with a mention from @SirTrott asking if I had jailbroken my iPhone yet. This was fantastic to my eyes and straight away I thought damn, I’m at work with no access to iTunes and cannot do it until I get home.

Then a quick search on the internet and found out that you no longer need to do it on a PC/MAC. If you simply browse to http://jailbreakme.com it does it all for you on your iDevice!

After numerous attempts to do it this morning I finally gave up and decided to try the http://modmyi.com mirror which seems much quicker and can be found http://jailbreakme.modmyi.com

I now have my iPhone 3GS jailbroken and cydia is once again on my home screen. This is fantastic new and have been waiting for this for some time now.

Easy peasy for you to do.

Browse to http://jailbreakme.com or http://jailbreakme.modmyi.com

slide the slider bar

wait a few minutes

    Stange Flickr issue

A while ago I have a really strange Flickr issue where all of the pages I went to were in what looked like Japanese text, to this day I still don’t know what caused it but somehow I did manage to sort it.

It seemed to be a problem with my Flickr account, it happened no matter where I logged on, which machines I used but here is a screen shot of what happened to me :)

Mac OS X Shortcut: Quick Hide Dock

If you are like me and you are always changing your desktop, moving icons around or just want a different look for the time you are on the computer then this may be handy for you.

This shortcut command will allow you to quickly hide/show the Mac OS X dock.

    ⌘-option-d

Pressing it once will hide it, pressing it for a second time will show the dock again.

It doesn’t make it go away permanently, this command only activated / disabled quick hide dock.

My Twitter New Years Resolution Starting Now!

I’ve come to a decision today that I really need to sort out my twitter life. Like many things that I start to do, I find my self getting incredibly bored with things and twitter is becoming one of them. I find myself getting new followers and I don’t even take the time the check out what they are about, whether or not they are spammers, or whether they are people I know, people I may be interested to follow or even have the curtsy to follow them back, even if it is just for a little while to get to know them.

At the end of the day that is what twitter is about isn’t it? finding people that interest you and follow their daily tweets? Find out new and interesting people from all over the globe striking up conversations with people that you will probably have never even met in the real world?

I seem to have been on a streak the last few months of trying to get as many people to follow me as possible and follow the least amount of people that I possibly can, but that is about to change. From now on anyone who starts to follow me (who isn’t a spammer) I am going to follow preparing for my new years resolution (well one of them) to keep on track and make even more friends on twitter.

If people want to follow me I can guarantee I will follow you back from now on. @rhodzy is who you need to follow.

Spammers, please stay away you won’t be followed you will simply be added to my twitter list @rhodzy/spammers and then every now and again I may send the odd hate message to it! haha you have been warned.

So starting from tonight, I will be going through all the people I follow, that follow me, and the people who are not spammers will be getting followed from me @rhodzy

Sorry it’s taken me so long to realise this but at least the time has now come.

Birdbrain app for the iPhone will allow me to do this quickly by keeping me upto date with how many followers I have gained and lost and people who I am following it will tell me if they are following me back.

Let the tweets roll in and the friend making begin!

Has ridden the wave, Surfs Over.

For some time I have been using Google Wave now, to be honest it’s getting a little boring and the excitement of something is new is wearing thin. I used to find myself keeping it logged in every day just waiting for new waves to come, searching for new waves, joining in on conversations and also making new friends, but the shinyness is wearing off and I find myself logging in at least once a week now. I no longer have waveboard running on my Mac or Macbook to check for new waves, I no longer log in on my iPhone and it’s getting even less that I login on the web browser.

I think I will completely boycott it altogether now just until it comes out of BETA mode as it seems a little pointless and not fun anymore. It will be great when more people can have access and I can get all my friends on but until then my Surfing days are slowly coming to the end.

Hurry up Google and get things moving along!
