Review: App Store: Tube Deluxe

Screenshot2009-11-29at18.07.39.png This little application is something I could have really done with last weekend when I was down in London. It’s a must have application for anyone who is going to be using the tube system in London who doesn’t use it on a regular basis!

This little application will allow you to plan journeys, find the nearest tube entrance, get updates on stations and lines such as maintenance, planned closures , part closers and suspended lines.

You can also find out the departure times in real time and also browse the full tube system map on your iPhone.

Loading Screen

photo-212.jpg

Main Menu

From here you can choose exactly what you want to do. You will see across the bottom the options that are available.

photo-222.jpg

As you can see the option that is selected by default is “Status” this screen allows you to select the line you want and find out critical information such as closures, planned closures, if the service is running as normal etc.

You can choose the line you want and you should see a screen like the one below showing the exact details.

photo-232.jpg

You can also browse the “Maps” section which allows you to view the whole of the tube map on your iPhone, which is of course fully scrollable showing you all the stations.

photo-242.jpg

photo-252.jpg

The “Plan” Option will allow you to plan your route and will tell you which line you need to be on, which stations you need to swap and shows you the other stations you will pass along the route.

photo-262.jpg

Simply select the From Station where you will be presented with the full list of stations which is of course searchable so you don’t need to scroll through them all.

photo-272.jpg

After selection it will revert you back to the “Plan” screen where you will now need to do the same for the destination. After this has been done simply click on Itinerary and you will be presented with this screen, for this journey we have done a short journey from Piccadilly Circus to Embankment.

photo-28.jpg

If we now click on the “Departures” tab we will need to select our line and also station that we are going from, it will then display all the times that the tubes depart and when the next one is. They are really regular sometimes every couple of minutes so no need to panic if you miss the first one!

Select the line:

Select your Outgoing station: I have used Piccadilly again as an example.

photo-30.jpg

You can also use the “locate” tab which will use the built in GPS to find the nearest station to you.

Now because I am no longer in London the distance for me is quite….well a distance!

Allow access for “Tube Deluxe” to use your current location

photo-31.jpg

You will then be presented with a list of stations that are close to your location.

Select the one that is closest to you:

The you will be able to use the following options!

This is a must have application for anyone who hasn’t used the tube system before or anyone who doesn’t use it regular and requires assistance with the London Underground system!

Enjoy!

I am addicted! Doodle Jump iPhone!

doodle_jump_box1.jpgThis is one of my reviews for an iPhone game called Doodle Jump!

You must note that this game comes with a warning “BE WARNED: Insanely Addictive!”

Yeah I know you are probably thinking the exactly the same of me, how hard or addictive can it be! You will be surprised!

The aim of the game is to get as high up as possible just by bouncing around and tilting your iPhone from left to right! Just be careful and tap the screen to shoot all the evil things that await you : )

The cool thing that I love about this game is the ability to upload your scores to not only facebook but also twitter!

I was playing the game for around 30 minutes last night and after the first attempt I was hooked, it took my mrs to tell me to turn the game off! Even she had a go!

All I can say if you love the logo you are going to love the game!

Here are a few screenshots!

The Green blocks are perfectly safe, but be careful I only said Green Blocks ;- )

photo-231.jpg

If you want a bigger boost to get a higher score, try and get the hat!

photo-241.jpg

The blue ones move but are perfectly safe!

photo-251.jpg

If you want a MASSIVE BOOST! Then get the jet pack : )
You will notice the brown platform below…if you stand on it and there isn’t a different colour one below then….

photo-261.jpg

this is what happens….

photo-271.jpg

Oooops – I died, back to the beginning!

photo-291.jpg

DONT FORGET TO UPLOAD YOUR SCORE TO FACEBOOK OR TWITTER!!

I shall be playing this for the next 30 minutes again, I am going to try and limit my self per day to 30 minutes…..unless I get very good!

Just found the world of Plex!

I have spent all morning looking how to stream Live TV to my iMac so when not using it as a computer I can use it as TV, I didn’t want to spend any money so my search was pretty difficult. I came across various different software such as eyeTV and MediaCentral, but unfortunately these all required either USB aerials and also for me to purchase the software.

I searched the web to try and find plugins for Front Row to integrate YouTube, BBC iPlayer, 4oD and all of the usual catchup TV channels as an alternative to live streaming, my search was unsuccessful and just found various forums of everyone wanting to do the same.

I then came across Plex for Mac OS X, one word describes this software, PHENOMENAL!

It’s very similar to Front Row, Act’s like Front Row and is better than Front Row! This piece of software does everything you could want from a Media Server plus much more. Here is a few things that it allows me to do:

  • Stream AVI files
  • Stream MP3 files
  • Allows me to Browse my TB HD over Airport Extreme to access my media
  • Browse my Photos
  • Browse iTunes Media
  • Stream Media from BBC iPlayer
  • Stream Media from 4oD
  • Stream Media from HULU (Although not available in the UK)
  • Stream from YouTube
  • Stream from Google Videos
  • Watch free South Park Videos

It does so much more, tons of streamable media over the internet you can add from the built in App Store. The App store is an amazing place and allows you to browse lots and lots of different streaming channels and allows you to integrate them all within Plex.

Why do you need to turn your Mac into a TV when there are so many Streaming channels available, with TV choice right at your footstep, the only thing that could make this application better for my is if they add the ITV player to the App Store! I will be keeping a close eye on the App Store to see if it is added!

Certainly 12/10 if I could rate this app!

Give it a try and let me know what you think!!

Waveboard for Mac OS X

I recently got on Google Wave after weeks of trying to get an invite, the morning morning it finally happened, I woke up to an invite sitting in my mail account, I took no time in waiting around to try it out.

Last week I discovered a program for Mac OS X called “Waveboard“ a must have for all Google Wave users who are running Mac OS X, No windows version available HA!

Check it out http://www.getwaveboard.com/

There is also an iPhone version coming out that is currently waiting to be approved!

I can’t wait until the iPhone version is available then i’ll be able to wave while on the move!

There are plenty of updates coming out for the Mac OS X version which to me show the dedication of the developer and just isn’t jumping on the band wagon for Google Wave! It really is a great Application! It’s that good I even have it to start up at login!

I reckon if it wasn’t for this App then I wouldn’t check my Google Wave account as much as I do now!

The best part….. It’s Free!!!

It has a nice Dock Icon that continually tells you have many unread waves you have:

Also at the status bar at the top, it has the Waveboard icon that goes blue when new waves are available to read.

Overall I give the developer a 10/10 for this GREAT application!

Finally found a blogging tool for Mac OS X that I enjoy

I’ve been looking for a blogging tool for Mac OS X that I like, enjoy using and that does everything that I need like inserting photos, editing text, change / create categories etc and I think I may have found the perfect one for my needs.

I find the menu options a little confusing but I guess I will figure them out within time, the application is called MacJournal and it does exactly what it says on the tin, it really is a Journal for Mac.

Some of the features I like are:

1) Being able to manage and write to multiple blogs all from within the application
2) Insert images which upload perfectly
3) Full text editor
4) Offline writing / Publish later
5) View all posts ever written within the application and see which have been published

There is also so much more.

MacJournal is a great little app which I have now installed on my macbook for when travelling and also on my iMac in my office. I find it’s a much better way to type up blog posts and also find myself taking my time when writing / over using the web browser to type up posts.

I know I have trouble with spelling and also with writing blog posts, most of them are just sometimes rants (which I will continue to do) after all a blog is a place for thoughts and rants….plus it’s my blog so I will post what ever I like :)

Check out the MacJournal website for more information!

Have fun and happy blogging!

Android App – ToggleWiFi

I have been using ToggleWiFi for some time now and I have to say I use it on a daily basis, basically it allows you to turn on / off your wifi setting with a touch of a button. Perfect for if your connection drops and you get the error message “Connection to **** unsuccessful” rather than going through the setting menu and clicking reconnect, simple hit the ToggleWiFi button and turn off your wireless connection then hit again to enable – your connection will then reconnect to the access point and voila!

This is deff 10/10
