Quickly add images into your Gallery2 album
Up until recently I have been going about adding photos to my online Gallery the long LONG slow SLOW way.
I had been logging into the back end and choosing to upload files, which I thought was pretty good up until I had say 50 Photos to upload at once, then it seemed like too much hard work.
Gallery Remote is an application that will connect to your Gallery2 installation and makes it quick and easy to upload photos, create albums, delete albums, edit filenames etc overall making it easy to manage your Gallery. Gallery Remote is avaliable for Mac OSX, Windows and others.
Mac OSX
Windows

Since Gallery Remote is a Java application, it requires you to have a Java Virtual Machine version 1.4 or later installed on your system.
Airport Extreme & 1TB Drive Issues
I have just installed my Airport Extreme GB router and attahced a 1TB external HDD via the USB port.
Currently having issues where the drive is showing some files on my MAC and the same files on my WINXP laptop. If i plug the USB HDD in to my MAC I can see all the files, and the same with the WINXP laptop. Causing head aches as it is really annoying, I have checked to see all the daft things first like are the files hidden, rebooted the drive and the router but still no luck
I will post an update when I have figured out the problem.
the loopback adapter and windows file share tunneling: XP + 2003
After searching the internet for ways how to map network drives to my computers at home from remote locations over SSH i came across this little guide. It works perfectly!
The following instructions document how the Microsoft Loopback Adapter can be installed and configured for use with file share tunneling on Windows XP and 2003:
Installing the Loopback Adapter:
1. Open Start, Control Panel, Add Hardware.
2. Click Next on the introduction dialog box.
3. Select ‘Yes, I have already connected the hardware’ and click Next.
4. Scroll to the bottom of the list of hardware, select ‘Add a new hardware device’, then click Next.
5. Select ‘Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)’, then click Next.
6. Select ‘Network adapters’, then click Next.
7. Select ‘Microsoft’ as the manufacturer, select ‘Microsoft Loopback Adapter’ as the adapter, then click Next.
8. Click Next to confim the installation.
9. Click Finish to complete the installation.
2. Configure the newly created adapter:
1. Open Start, Control Panel, Network Connections.
2. Select the newly created connection (should be named ‘Local Area Connection N’, where N is its order number).
3. Right click on the selected connection and choose Properties from the menu.
4. Confirm that ‘Microsoft Loopback Adapter’ (or ‘Microsoft Loopback Adapter #N’) is displayed in the ‘Connect Using:’ field. If it isn’t, return to step 2 and retry properties for another adapter.
5. Uncheck (disable) everything except ‘Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)’.
6. Select ‘Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)’, then click Properties to open ‘Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties’.
7. Select ‘Use the following IP address:’ and fill in the ‘IP address:’ and ‘Subnet mask:’ fields (e.g. 10.10.10.10, 255.255.255.0).
8. Click Advanced to open ‘Advanced TCP/IP Settings’.
9. Switch to WINS and select ‘Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP’.
10. Click OK to close ‘Advanced TCP/IP Settings’.
11. Click OK to close the ‘Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties’.
12. Optionally (on XP only) uncheck (disable) ‘Notify me when this connection has limited or no conectivity’ to remove the connection warning icon from the system notification area.
13. Click OK to close the connection properties.
problems with vista and samba shares
My Dad has just bought a new laptop with windows vista ultimate installed, and he also has a NAS device installed on his home network. The device works fine with Windows XP or Lower. The problems came when he tried accessing a share with Windows Vista, it just locked the computer up and didn’t let you access the data. This then needed ending the EXPLORER task in windows and starting it back up again. After hours of searching on the internet for a solution I came across this easy guaranteed solution. Here is what it told me to do.
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click System and Maintenance
4. Click Administrative Tools
5. Double-Click Local Security Policy
6. In the left pane, click the triangle next to Local Policy
7. In the left pane, click Security Options
8. In the right pane near the bottom, double-click “Network security: LAN manager authentication level”
9. Click the drop-down box, and click “Send LM & NTLM – use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”
10. Click OK
Then I had a brain wave, I would log onto the NAS device (as it has a web interface) and look for the model number of the device. Unfortunately it didn’t give any details away about the Make/Model. So I had one last hope I copied the firmware version of the device and put it onto Google. It came back with a forum page saying this is a more commonly known name for this kind of device (I can’t remember the name) but I went to the website and downloaded the latest firmware for the device. This failed to update 3 times but on the 4th time SUCCESS it worked. The firmware was now updated. I rebooted the device and it didn’t come back up, tried another reboot and it worked. I tried access the shares from vista and voila it worked!
