iPad went strange today..

So, yesterday I Jailbroke my iPad running 5.0.1 with @pod2g‘s untethered jailbreak for A4 devices.

I was playing around with Cydia and installing some of the usual applications like:

iFile, Winterboard, SBSettings as well as some more random applications, as soon as I find the website where I was getting the ideas from I will list them all. However when I rebooted my iPad it came back up and let me log in fine, however I noticed the icons were strangely spaced out (which makes me think Winterboard) may have been to blame but until I replicate the error I cannot be sure. All of my applications thought they were running on an iPhone. My touch screen wouldnt work within applications so I couldnt remove apps from Cydia either.

The only way to get around it was to restore and re-jailbreak.

Investigations continue.

UPDATE: I did also install the FullForce application

Just upgraded my iPad 1 to iOS 5.0.1: Problems

Yesterday I decided it was time to upgrade my iPad to iOS 5.0.1 (great timing with the untethered jailbreak getting released this morning) so far, I’m not that impressed. I keep getting really bad lags and applications that just force close.

Not sure why, but I’m just about to jailbreak, so I will see what that allows me to do and install from Cydia.

Anyone else had problems with iOS 5.0.1 running on iPad 1?

UPDATE, now I have jailbroken it’s still randomly closing applications when it wants to. Investigations continue

iTunes Match – First thoughts

So today I subscribed to iTunes Match. Why?

1) I wanted all my music available where ever I went.
2) I wanted all of the album artwork that was available to me
3) I wanted someone to sort out my music collection while I drank coffee and which was all automatic

This works really well, however one thing I am disappointed with was the ability to not rename the file name of my music. iTunes match obviously had in mind what all the albums were but it didn’t rename the tracks that were in different styles. I wanted all my music to look similar. I have file names in capital letters, lower case and was hoping iTunes would sort all these out when it downloaded the album artwork for all of my music. However it didn’t.

This was a huge disappointment for me and for that reason I decided to turn off my auto renew subscription. I am going to see how much i use iTunes match and try to justify to myself is it worth the £22 that I paid for the year.

Another grumble I had, not anything to do with apple, or I don’t think it is, is how long it takes to upload the songs that iTunes doesn’t already have.

I have had iTunes running all day and uploading music files to “the cloud” but this is still on going as you can see from here

I think this may have something to do with my crappy upload speed but Im not sure yet. Time will tell.

Overall I am half satisfied and half not, I really wanted all my music to have a standard naming convention which iTunes match simply just hasn’t done.

iPad Jailbroken with Spirit

OK I know I jailbroke my iPad some time ago now but I have only just got around to writing a blog post about it.

Since first getting the iPad I really wanted to jailbreak it but I was too scared, then one day, I received something that made the decision for me. Yep that’s right lets just say I received a bill.

OK so first of all here is how you jailbreak the iPad with spirit.

  • Your iPad must be running firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2 (not 3.2.1). (some of the firmware listed there is only avalaiable for the iPhone.)
  • Your device must be activated and not stuck in restore mode or recovery mode.
  • You will need iTunes 9.2 installed.
  • Download Spirit Jailbreak app from the following links: WINDOWS : MAC : LINUX
  • Connect your device to your computer.
  • Launch the App
  • Click the button
  • Within seconds you are complete and jailbroken.

Please note the above is from my experience using the MAC version although I guess there wont be much difference with the Windows version, its the Linux one I am not sure of.

Now I love having Cydia / 3rd party applications as well of, Winterboard!!

#iquarium cheat iPhone / iPad

If you come across this blog post then you already know what iquarium is and you don’t need me to explain :)

If you are fed up of waiting and waiting to get new items for your fish tank then follow these few little instructions.

MAKE SURE EVERYTIME YOU EXECUTE THE BELOW YOU FEED YOUR FISH

Ok then here we go.

Launch iquarium and feed your fish
Close iquarium
Change your clock on the iPhone / iPad to 23:59
Launch iquarium again
Now feed your fish!!!
You will notice that you gain 149 points
Feed your fish!!!!

You can carry this out as many times as you wish, but always make sure you feed your fish, otherwise it will die and you will lose all your points and have to start again.

Oh and one last thing, don’t forget to change your clock back to the normal time, otherwise you many be late getting up for work/school ha ha

Enjoy!

First post from iPad.

Well this is my first post from my iPad.

What do I think? It’s hard to hold, is going to take some getting used to, apps are expensive, takes ages to activate the micro sim. But all in all I’m happyish with it for now and still getting to grips with it.

At least the iPad is working unlike my iPhone 3GS. Its been upgraded to iPhone 4.0 and with me now being on o2 I cannot use it yet, I have to wait for o2 to unlock it officially so I can use it on vodafone. So all in all my perfect day of gadgets is not going all that great.
Ask me again tomorrow how am feeling.
